Definition:
 
self-stabilizing device: a device consisting of a rotating heavy metal wheel pivoted inside a circular frame whose movement does not affect the wheel's orientation in space. Use: in compasses and other navigational aids, in stabilizing mechanisms on ships and aircraft.
