1. beginning of liberation of Europe: 6 June 1944, the day on which Allied forces landed in northern France to begin the liberation of occupied Europe in World War II

2. day when operation is to begin: a day chosen for the beginning of a military operation or other major venture

3. military start of 2003 Iraq ground war: 19 March 2003, the day on which ground operations began during the War in Iraq, involving invading coalition forces of the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, and some other countries
